"First off, this painting is not about the death of the Buddha, per se, but how death is a necessary prerequisite in the process of making change. How it must come before any new birth. In some ways this is a Self Portrait, reflective of my time in the desert - a time for meditation and reflection, working at overcoming fears. And, of course, a time for painting. I thought, 'How beautiful the colors are here!' So, it's really a mix of experiences."
